Three Surprisingly Cheap Bedroom Updates: One Room Challenge Week Five

. 4 min read

Phew, it's been quite a week! I am going to keep this post short and sweet as I am super busy finishing all those last One Room Challenge bits and pieces. Today I ran SEVEN errands, but it's all going to be worth it when our master bedroom makeover is finished!

So today, I thought I'd share three updates that have been very budget-friendly for this project, but have made a huge impact on our space.

Let's get straight to it!

1. PAINTING THE BASEBOARDS DARK

This was such a simple update that has really added some extra character and drama to the space—and it only took me a couple of hours. I used leftover matte paint, and bought a good quality angled brush and a handy paint cup to ease the process.

Total cost: $9

2. PAINTING THE BEDFRAME

This was also something that wasn't in my original plan, but by golly I am SO glad that I did it! I resented the look of our bed frame because it just isn't really my style anymore, but the mattress still has a couple of years of life left in it, and it's UK sized, which means we had to keep the UK sized bed frame to go with it. The joys of expat living.

I used this chalk paint, a stencil brush and some finishing wax that I already had leftover from a different project. Painting those intricate details was pretty tedious and took the best part of a day, but I couldn't be happier with the result!

Total cost: $17

3. THE FLOATING NIGHTSTANDS

Remember the floating nightstand situation? Well, a local furniture maker came up with the goods and these beauties only set us back $55 each!! They actually worked out cheaper than the awful ones I ordered online in the first place. The ones I was looking at on Etsy were between $200 & $300 each, so I was ecstatic when he came back with the price! We supplied our own hardware which we found on Etsy.

It also left some money in my budget to splurge on a macrame wall hanging from Fond Willow, so all in all it was a great outcome.

I know, I know, we got SO lucky with this one, but the reason he charged so little is because he had all the materials on hand as scraps from other projects, as he usually makes much larger pieces. So, I guess with this one, if you are handy (or you know someone who is) then you could probably make some of these yourself at very little cost. And I am in LOVE with them—they might even be my favorite feature of the room.

Total cost: $110

We are doing pretty well with progressing through our to-do list, although I am waiting on a couple of pieces that may or may not arrive in time. So fingers crossed that they do so I can include them in the room reveal which will be posted same time NEXT WEEK! I can't wait!
